Orbite Technologies Inc. was a Canadian cleantech company based in Montreal, specialized in extracting processes for the mining industry, particularly in alumina extraction. The company developed the Orbite process as a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to the Bayer process, as well as a method to treat red mud. Although facing challenges and declaring bankruptcy in 2017 due to delays in constructing a new plant, the company rebranded as Advanced Energy Minerals in 2022 and claims to be producing high-purity alumina at its Cap-Chat facility. The Orbite process, utilizing acid rather than sodium hydroxide, is known for its minimal industrial waste production and efficient extraction methods.
