Painted turtles are semi-aquatic reptiles found across southern Canada, ranging from Nova Scotia to British Columbia. They come in three subspecies: eastern, western, and midland, each with distinct physical characteristics. Painted turtles prefer living in shallow waters of ponds, marshes, lakes, or creeks with slow-moving water and soft bottoms. Their habitat conservation is vital due to threats like wetland habitat loss and road mortality.
